“Chicago House Athletic Club” is the name of Chicago’s newest professional soccer club, its President & CEO Peter Wilt announced today. The club will compete in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) and will kick off its inaugural season in August 2021 at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, IL.

OUR NAME

The name, voted on by fans, was revealed Tuesday, along with the club’s logo, colors and unique sporting structure. “Chicago House” defeated “Point Chicago” by a two-to-one margin in the final round of the three-month long ‘Moniker Madness’ fan-driven name selection promotion. The contest began in October with 68 finalists set-up in brackets for fan voting.

Fans submitted more than 400 team name entries along with proposed color schemes as well. “Chicago Athletic Club”, was one of the names that was suggested by fans, but eliminated in the Elite Eight round of voting. This moniker ultimately made a comeback as an addition to “Chicago House.” As an important part of the club’s brand, Chicago House AC plans to add affiliated teams in a variety of sports to become a true Athletic Club in the image of professional Athletic Clubs around the world such as Atlético de Madrid, Club Atlético River Plate and FC Barcelona.

“True Athletic Clubs structured with multiple sports teams competing alongside a parent soccer or football club are common in Europe and Latin America,” says team President & CEO Peter Wilt. “Chicago House AC plans to align ourselves with individual, recreational, competitive, Esports and Parasports teams to make the “House” a genuine Athletic Club. We will work with the public to identify appropriate sports as well as teams that share our values and extend the Chicago House AC mission throughout Chicagoland.”

Chicago House AC’s name was submitted by fan Brian Costin. “Chicago House music has always been about peace, love, and acceptance, and has influenced music culture all over the globe,” says Costin. “But it’s not just music and fun, the name “House” also recognizes the societal contributions of the Chicago House charity serving the LGBTQ community, Jane Addams’ Hull House, and the U.S. Soccer House headquartered in Chicago. The accomplishments of these individuals and organizations can act as an aspirational guide for how Chicago House AC can make a positive impact off the pitch as well,” continued Costin. “I am excited about how Chicago House music will contribute to the club culture and the gameday experience of Chicago House AC.”

OUR LOGO

The Chicago House AC color palette is bold and industrial, drawn from Chicago’s art, architectural, and activist heritage. The colors come from fan suggestions as well. Chicago House AC’s Fan Advisory Council member, Frank Cardenas submitted “Patina Green” as a team color inspired by the lion sculptures that stand guard outside the city’s famous Art Institute of Chicago. Many fans suggested black and orange. Chicago Soccer fan, Salvador Mares provided local meaning behind his suggestion of black when he shared in his submission, “Black, representing the founder of the city of Chicago, Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, and for the tallest building in Chicago The Sears/Willis Tower.”

With many fans suggesting the orange color, Chicago House AC Design Lead, Liam Murtaugh uses the “Deep Rust” shade of orange as a tribute to Chicago’s industrial past. Murtaugh notes, “Rust is a warm tone derived from Cor-Ten steel, which gains strength with exposure to the elements.” Murtaugh, the Creative Director of NO GRAND, a design office based in Chicago and Vilnius, Lithuania, described the inspirations for his Chicago House AC design explaining, “Our goal with the Chicago House AC identity was to cultivate a strong symbol and a visual framework both globally recognized and specific to the city. Months of active conversation and collaboration with the club's staff and stakeholders guided that creative process. We had a great challenge to unite Chicago's legacies of sports, art, music, and activism into a compelling message of progress and inclusivity. I'm confident we succeeded in devising an identity that opens doors to a diverse community extending far beyond professional soccer.” Liam Murtaugh also designed the original Chicago Red Stars’ logo.

The identity process was led on the team side by Chicago House AC’s Chief Operating Officer Night Train Veeck. “Both Peter and I share the value that when fans speak, we should listen. Almost every element of our new identity can be traced back to something that was either fan proposed or inspired. The decision to include our fans during every step of this process was instrumental in creating a strong foundation for Chicago House AC,” says Veeck. “Today, we are excited to share more than the visual identity of the club; it is through this crest and colors, whether worn on the field, in the stands, or at home, that we want our fans to feel they are a part of something bigger. Thanks to Liam's design expertise, and the thoughtful insight of our Fan Advisory Council, we were able to bring all aspects of our mission into sharp focus. It's our hope that fans feel the same deep connection to the communities we will serve in the city we call home, and that all Chicagoans will take pride in what we will achieve on and off the field.”
